This layout is constructed on an ironing board which was last used by the NVR model railway group secretary on Good Friday 2005, to iron a shirt (yes I have another one...). The intention was to demonstrate that 'lack of space' is no excuse not to have a layout. It was first exhibited at Linton (Cambridge) 12 weeks later.

Rolling stock has been modified, using old Hornby-Doublo chassis with wheels made non free running! Locomotives and wagons are fitted with Kadee couplings, operated by under-track magnets. These allow the locomotive to draw out a wagon, uncouple, and propel to a spot. - obviously it's not that easy, as the wagons are required by specified industries and the siding lengths are such that getting the sequence correct takes some thinking about.

The layout has been constructed by some of the builders and operators of the the NVR permanent exhibition layout 'Hamerton Road' 13.2m x 1.2m (44' x 4') located in a BR Mk2E coach at the Wansford Station of Nene Valley Railway, and open to the public most weekends. 'Iron Sidings' will sometimes be available for public viewing and operation when the main layout is open.
