Latest News Update
We
are now holding our regular Thursday Evening Meetings at 30 Whitecross,
Ravensthorpe, where we have excellent workshop facilities. We are no
longer meeting at Newton Hall as experience has dictated that it was
not suitable for our needs. We intend to construct a small Garden
railway layout on the workshop site later this year before the winter
sets in. Anyone who would like to assist or see how it is done will be made very welcome.
Our N-Gauge layout had it's first outing at our
exhibition on 6th June. Slight tuning and modification was
needed to make it a 100% reliable runner under all circumstances,
but it performed well and is now available to visit other Club open
days and exhibitions.
Once again our annual Peterborough Model
Railway Exhibition, held on 6th June this year was a roaring success.
With a larger floor area, a Garden Railway theme and beautiful weather,
a good day was had by all. I would like to thank the small band of
members, junior members and supporters who worked extremely hard
to make this our biggest and best show to date, with layouts spanning
45mm gauge, coal fired live steam, to the tiny N-gauge in a container exhibits,
there was possibly something for everyone. Thanks must also be extended
to Peterborough Scouts and their Quartermaster, without who's sterling
input every year this exhibition would not have been so efficiently
run.
A small number of our
members are becoming increasingly interested in 16mm narrow gauge scale
at both 32mm and 45mm gauges. I am now able to run G-gauge and 16mm in
the garden at home [RH]and we are currently building rolling stock and
locomotives in these scales. We have running sessions on a small 45mm
Gauge track at most of our Thursday Evening meetings.
Work
continues on the N-Gauge layout, where we have the
baseboard prepared and all of the track laid. Fleischmann track running
UK traction so designed to enable fully automatic running A/C or DCC as
required. Based around the simple but effective principle of a
double - split board portable layout with over 25ft of continuous
running. A
photographic record will be kept of developments for later publication.
April 10th 2009. Having been yet again let down by yet another
local charitable organisation who offer assistance with accommodation
only to prevaricate for months before providing any sort of decision,
we are therefore still looking for a new workshop location. Meanwhile
our regular meetings and working sessions continue to be held every
Thursday Evening.
February
19th 2009. Great news! We have been successfull in once again
managing to secure the barn at Sacrewell for our model railway
exhibition to be held this year on 7th June. Not only that, we have made the
decision to place a firm booking for our June 2010 exhibition
too. With only three months to go we will really have to get all hands
to the pumps to get everything organised in time.A
small N-Gauge layout has been kindly donated to the association. After
the application of some TLC it may be possible to bring this layout up
to a sufficient standard for exhibition use. Originally built on the
back of a standard internal door, this small layout will I am sure
provide those of us with a particular interest in this scale with many
hours of happy entertainment.
Relocation and redirection. After due deliberation we are actively seeking
to change the direction of the association. This will entail becoming a
much less active group with a great deal more emphasis on serving the
needs of our own members rather than the self serving needs of a public
facing charitable organisation. More like a model railway 'Hobby' based
association and less of a working volunteer group. The
current Railworld site at Peterborough where we were based last year is soon to be cleared
for redevelopment ??? involving the construction of a large exhibition
centre??? the proposed theme of which is sustainable transport.
